The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) organised the Smart Cities Summit 2018 in New Delhi on January 16, 2018 to deliberate on the adoption of newer technologies and innovations, investment opportunities, implementation and execution of the projects and the policy intervention for ease of doing business in India. With the above aim in mind, it bought together the key decision makers and the industry to a common platform to encourage fruitful dialogues and collaborations.
Smart Cities Mission is one of the key initiatives of the Government of India wherein innovative solutions will be introduced to recast the urban landscape of the country and make the cities more inclusive and liveable and with a steady economic growth. The Smart Cities Mission is progressing at a brisk pace and 90 cities have been selected so far. The selection of ten more cities will be announced shortly.
Our Chair International Business, Mr. Martin Harman, CBE, was invited to deliver the Opening Address wherein he shared his international experiences on Project Delivery in Smart Infrastructure – Opportunities. The Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri delivered the Key note address. Addressing the Summit, the Hon’ble Minister stated that under the government’s ‘Smart Cities Mission’, 3,000 projects worth Rupees 1.4 lakh crore in 90 cities were under implementation and over Rupees 1 lakh crore worth of projects were being readied for tendering.
Mr. Atul Sharma, our Managing Partner participated in the Luncheon Interactive Session on “Business Opportunities and Project Collaborations in Smart Cities” where Mr. Sharma spoke on “Procurements and Legal Framework-Smart City Projects” and highlighted the various legal challenges on the Procurement of smart city projects.
The Summit featured industry behemoths weigh in on different facets and case studies of successful Smart Cities. PwC released the Smart City Knowledge Report Release on “Block Chain Technology” in the same Summit. Corporates such as PwC, Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Cisco, Microsoft Corporation, VISA, Mahindra Lifespace, among others, contributed to make it an enlightening session. Also, Smart Cities such as the Pune Smart City, Bhopal Smart City, Nagpur Smart City, Chennai Smart City, Jammu Smart City, Bhubaneshwar Smart City, Aligarh Municipal Corporation, Patna Municipal Corporation, Government of Sikkim, Government of Karnataka and Government of Maharashtra were represented in the Summit.
