As part of our campus outreach program, Link Legal was invited by Jindal Global Law School, Sonepat on 29th August 2018 for an interactive session with the students to share the practical experiences of arbitration law in India and abroad. The session revolved around understanding the basic concepts of arbitration law as practiced across various sectors and its growing importance.
Mr. Atul Sharma, our Managing Partner and Mr. Martin Harman, our Chair International Business, offered valuable insight into arbitration and its international best practices, by leveraging on their considerable experience in the field.
Atul Sharma highlighted the importance of understanding the principles behind development of arbitration and the ever-increasing need of arbitration in the present context of international contracts being the norm. He pointed out the growth and development of institutional arbitration in India with the establishment of various arbitration centres in the country and other recent amendments facilitating development in the field.
Mr. Martin Harman harnessed his 43 year plus experience in arbitration to enlighten the audience of international trends and best practices and how streamlined a process arbitration can prove to be compared to traditional litigation. He spoke at length about the importance of choosing the appropriate arbitrator and how the different customs and cultures of a place can affect arbitration proceedings.
The audience, consisting of senior batch JGLS students, were highly inquisitive and interactive, and put forth well-thought and pertinent questions to the speakers thus contributing to a productive session.
The dialogue paves the way for Link Legal and Jindal Global Law School to embark on a mutually beneficial relationship by conducting more such sessions on relevant topics and bridging the distance between theory and practice.
